In Part 2 of my conversation with NBA legend Steve Nash, we shifted gears from leadership to longevity — something he’s studied both as an athlete and now as an entrepreneur. (Click here for Part 1 on leadership.) Steve is helping redefine what it means to age well, focusing not just on how long we live, but how long we live well. His new health app, BLOCK, is built around this exact idea. Here are my three key takeaways:
— Healthspan > Lifespan: Steve’s passion is to help close the gap between how long we live and how long we stay healthy. The average healthspan is only 63 years, and it’s shrinking. Block aims to reverse that trend by helping users build sustainable habits. And it doesn’t take much effort to feel better physically. He has some great tips in our talk.
— Five Pillars of Longevity: According to Nash, true wellness comes from five key areas: exercise, sleep, mental health, diet, and social interaction. If even one of these breaks down, it can drag down your entire quality of life.
— Recognize the Sitting Disease: Battle the cumulative, awful effects of sitting, with the cumulative effect of getting up to move around, even for small intervals, e.g. taking a call while you walk around. The results can be profound.
Steve Nash is no longer just leading in basketball — he’s leading people on how to live their healthiest lives, regardless of age or ability. What an inspiration. Check out Block (https://www.blocktraining.com/) and get going on your healthspan!
